The editors at Car and Driver recently named the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 their best large SUV, with the vehicle besting competition from domestic and foreign manufacturers.

The six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged 362-horsepower GLS 450 scored the quickest 0-60 mph time of the entries, and also delivered the best fuel efficiency. Inside, three rows of seats offer room for seven adults, with every passenger able to access a cupholder, padded armrest and reading lights. Standard features include power liftgate and a power-folding third row, which, combined with the 60/40 split second row, accommodate up to 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The third row seating is easily accessed, thanks to large side doors and easy-entry second row seats.
Since this was the first-ever 10Best Trucks and SUVs competition, Car and Driver editors had to change their normal process for choosing entries. Going forward, they will follow to their established practice of only inviting the prior year’s winner and any vehicles that are new or have been meaningfully updated.
